The English language is an Indo-European language that belongs to the western branch of the Germanic family originated in the UK. It is the first language for many people in the UK, the United States, Canada, Australia, New Zealand, Republic of Ireland and the Anglophone Caribbean. It is used extensively as a second language and as an official language throughout the world, especially in countries of the Commonwealth Nations and many international organizations, one of the six official united nations languages.
